Acer AO751H REVIEW (same as Acer LT3000) (Acer Aspire One 751)

With so many netbook manufactures now breaking into the 10-inch+ screen limit, Acer was no way going to left behind in the business where it actually rules. The Acer A0751H is the first Acer Aspire One to sport an Intel Atom Z 520 processor that is clocked at 1.3GHz. However, the best part of this netbook is its resolution: 1366 x 768 px, which gives it an obvious edge over its competitors. So, was it able to impress us?

ASUS EEE S101H REVIEW – Detailed!

After the sweet success of ASUS EEE S101, ASUS rolled out a hard disk version of it, the EEE S101H. It is built along the lines of S101. It is just 2.5cm thin; weighs just 1.1kg and its metallic finish makes it perfect for making a style statement. But, do not go swayed away by its looks, it is pretty powerful too. Now Windows Mobile users can access the Marketplace on their computers and have an extensive research on the app before transferring it to their phones. Since the Marketplace is now open for Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1, this facility can be enjoyed by them as well.

The applications are transferred wirelessly to your phone after you purchase them online. These can be used afterwards on your phone’s marketplace client. Microsoft proposes a better anti-privacy shield with this launch.

Flash 10.1 – no love for netbooks, at least for now

Flash 10.1 – no love for netbooks, at least for now

Adobe released BETA of newer version of flash that is supposed to provide GPU acceleration. However, since it does not supports GMA 950 which is used in most of the netbooks, it is going to make little to no difference at all in the flash performance in the netbooks.

Right now, it only supports GMA 4500 and Nvidia ION. So, users ION powered netbooks and nettops should update to the this version. Others shall wait for Adobe to include GMA 950 support

Note: Linux and Mac netbooks/notebooks are not yet supported

Nokia N900 is the best Phone MID!

Nokia N900 is a great phone for some, but for us, it has to be awarded the title of best MID ever made. Here is a video where Nokia N900 is shown running 12 apps opened at the same time. Music is playing in the background; PDF files are opened; game that was being played is paused; photo viewer displaying a hi-res picture and everything on this MID is opened.

Guess what, it handled them all with panache and not even a single slowdown was noticed anywhere. Take about some effective and efficient memory management!

Adobe Flash player coming to Android OS and WebOS

Adobe Flash player coming to Android OS and WebOS

Rejoice netbook makers! Adobe has finally announced that Flash Player will be available for the Android and WebOS system in the first half of the year 2010.

If you are running Android on your netbook or on your device, you will be told to check next year. Here is the message shown on Android devices:

“Adobe Flash Player 10.1 coming to Android 2.0 in the first half of 2010″

Adobe also promised that BETA would be available to the WebOS users this year, but we are yet to hear something about that. Windows Mobile users can also expect a Flash Player version too.

Few Tweaks for improving performance of GMA 950 chipset

Few Tweaks for improving performance of GMA 950 chipset

Here are few tweaks that one can do on a netbook that comes with GMA 950 chipset to improve its performance:

- Disable Power Savings (Right click desktop, Graphics Properties, Display Settings, Power Settings, set the slider to “Disable Power Savings”)
- Set Driver Memory Footprint to High (Right click desktop, Graphics Properties, 3D settings, Change “Driver Memory Footprint” value from Normal to High)
- Some people have luck with GMABooster, I however haven’t tried it yet because I’m unsure about the safety of it. http://www.gmabooster.com/

-If you run Vista/7, turning off Aero will give you some more frames in the games.

Jolicloud: No GMA 500 support – get Ubuntu 9.10 instead!

Jolicloud: No GMA 500 support – get Ubuntu 9.10 instead!

Jolicloud OS consistency with lots of new netbooks have been posted on the website. But there is no support for GMA 500 graphics powered netbooks.

Instead of going with Jolicloud, we would recommend our readers to go for something like Ubuntu 9.10 OS (review) or UBUNTU NBR for which GMA 500 drivers are already available.

ASUS EEE 1201N now available for Pre-Order – $499

ASUS EEE 1201N now available for Pre-Order – $499

ASUS’s first ION-powered netbook is now available for pre-order for $499 at the following stores:

This mighty netbook has a nice 12.1-inch display with 1366×768 resolution, Intel Dual Core Atom 330 processor, 2GB RAM, 250GB har disk, Nvidia ION chipset, Bluetooth and WiFi b/g/n.

It is being offered with Windows 7 Home Premium (not starter or basic edition) so that you can enjoy Aero on it in its full glory. After all, you have the strong ION GPU to back it on.

ASUS made the right decision by not bundling this amazing netbook with the atrocious GMA 500 chipset. At $499, it may sound expensive to some, but, then it has far better specs than the SONY VAIO X that we recently reviewed

Intel Arrandale processors coming soon to phase out SU7300, SU9600, SU2300 and SU3500 CULV processors

Intel Arrandale processors coming soon to phase out SU7300, SU9600, SU2300 and SU3500 CULV processors

Intel is planning to launch Arrandale CPUs based on Calpella platform. These CPUs includes:

  • Core i7-640UM (1.2GHz)
  • Core i7-620UM (1.06GHz)
  • Core i5-520UM (1.06GHz)

The price are US$305, US$278 and US$241, respectively. These will make their debut in the first half of 2010 and more will follow in the 3Q of 2010. Intel is targeting the mid and high-end market with the aforementioned CPUs

Commentary: Clearly, the CPUs are NOT meant for the netbooks, may be for the high end netbooks that fall in the VAIO X category, but certainly not for the ones under $400 range.
