One small quibble with your calling the finish “brushed plastic”. It appears to me to be aluminized, which gives it a cool-to-the-touch feel and puts it a notch above brushed plastic IMHO.

Just bought 1002HA last week, I upgraded it to 2g ram and extended 1yr warranty. Without much of finding prior to my netbook shopping, i was amazed by the battery life of 5 hrs as per Asus claimed. But in real, it only charged up to 3 hrs 10min (bout tat)?! And using wifi to surf the net, I can safely say not more than 3 hrs surfing time, even when I dimmed down the back light to 50% and set at “Power Saving Mode”. I was quite pissed off by the Asus label claiming 5hrs battery life, which I could never experienced it, and called up to the dealer for explaination. They said 5hrs is the standby time if no program is using, even without Wifi. Come on! Your charged up time is only 3hrs, in what way Asus is claiming it can lasts up to 5hrs battery life?! Don’t tell me 5hrs can only be achieved WHEN I DO NOT USE MY NETBOOK BUT LEAVE IT ON!! Sound Alienation right?! Conclusion, to me, I feel whatever Asus is claiming on its battery life at the label sticking on each netbook (or notebook), please auto deduct 2 more hours of usage to be precised. Thanks

OK – I did everything that you’ve listed, and I still cannot get the touchpad to work. It shows a touchpad icon in the tray with a big through it – so, I guess that means it doesn’t work. At what point do I know it’s defective and needs to be returned?

NP. Just keep pressing f2 key ASA you press the power button to enter the BIOS

Thanks for trying to help. I’m not hardware savvy, and I cannot turn off the boot booster. I think I will just have to return the computer. It is of no use to me for traveling if the touchpad doesn’t work. Thanks anyway.

I meant the device manager (press win+break key and then go to hardware(tab) > device manager)

If nothing works, try restoring using the F9 key. See this link for instructions:

Yes please if you have it. I posted your review on Netbook Choice, but if you have a look at the post I also included a table that eeepc.it did comparing the 1002HA with the 1000H.

It seems to show that the HDD performance on the 1002HA was better than the 1000H which I was a bit surprised by. I just wondered whether your results pointed the same way!
