I bought Acer A0751H w/Vista basic, 2GB Ram and 250HD.
Installed Windows 7 enterprise trial version and Office 2010 Beta: the A0751H shows excelent speed and perfomance for my office use.
Thinking to buy W7 home premium after w7 enterprise trial version expires.
Just the multitouch pad is not working properly but I imagine I need to find an update for the driver

i’m a month old A0751h-1948 user,. which is XP,1GB,160HDD,.. McAfee is surely memory hunger, or processor,.. either, sacrificing the performance, i think avira should relief the prob,. others believe that Symantec cut down the time needed for complete windows startup compared to McAfee,.2 GB is Indeed,.but higher speed ram such as ddr2 667/800 are supported? and it’s a single channel,. i’v used CPUz to harvest the spec. but the info shows nul for the ram type(ddr2?speed?channel?) anything,..?

I downloaded it…ran it…and a crap load of Filters come up…I don’t see anything with DIVX??? What are you recommending? Can you please be more specific?

PLEASE READ before judging this netbook!!!

Processor speed is not important – this netbook has HARDWARE acceleration… needs a few software tweaks to be on par with most laptops.

Download DirectShow Filter Manager – remove anything that says divx that isn’t made by divx. Then install latest divx codec and directshow filters. That will allow 60fps 720P playback of nearly everything.

Download and install Adobe Flash Player 10.1 – it’s brand new and in beta at the time of this posting, but it is the first hardware accelerated flash player on the planet. Playback HD flash video flawlessly.

Adobe Photoshop CS4 uses accelerated OpenGL of this netbook. It Rocks!

Use CCleaner to strip away all the useless krap on this pc, and yes – Vista is fantastic on this compared to XP

Just getting this piece from my bro in texas(I live in Mumbai)
Have the following specs-
Z520 (1.2GHz, 512KB L2 cache, 490MHz FSB)
Windows Vista Home Basic with Service Pack 1
2048MB DDR2 SDRAM Single Channel Memory
250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
any recommendations on how to make it perform better-
Can i replace the vista with XP,

I got this laptop in the 2gb RAM/250gb HDD version running vista and once you give McAfee the boot (I switched over to Eset) it performs beautifully. I haven’t had a single lock up yet and I will probably upgrade to Windows 7 when it comes out. I primarily use Office 2007 and dev c++ on it. The few attempts I have tried with movies are Netflix (watchable but a few hiccups), iTunes/m4v video (virtually unwatchable) and Windows Media Player/avi video (no problems noticed). Load time for programs can be a little slow but not that bad considering. I recommend this netbook especially once McAfee is dumped.

i bought this netbook in regard to my constant need of my labtop in college classes. i have a notebook but its big, its bulky, and i find it to be so slow on the boot up. when i first got this new netbook i thought i was being scamed for the price i paid (250) but later on after i striptd this little comp of its lesser appendages called addware. i found that upgrading the ram makes all the difference. i installed windows 7 when i got the chance, not even needing to deal with vista and i have not found a single problem with this little machine. it has been a big relief from my bigger labtop, which i gave to my big brother to use at work, and so far i havent had a single problem. though i find that streaming videos is a BITCH no matter what OP u use, that honestly is the only problem i see that could truly hurt its score, i have no problem with the small touch pad and i find the slow speed not to troubling but i do plan to upgrade to the Z550 when it hits the shelf. all in all i find this little machine to be a best buy and i recamend it to anyone who knows how to reinstall an OP and knows anything about slightly tweeking a fe settings to get the performanc just right.
i hope this review helps anyone out there looking for a new toy.
bottom line though, DO NOT buy this netbook if u do not have any clue on what u are doing when i comes to configuring BIOS or stripping OP’s from its original settings.

The BIOS (3208) will NOT fix the lockup problem. I cannot recommend a machine that has such a high percentage of failures since this is not an isolated problem related to one configuration. It does not matter what OS you have loaded and none of the driver updates seem to do anything more than delay the lock ups for a little while. This is sad for such nice features.

I bought the AO751h about a month ago. I immediately installed XP pro (from a new format). This was supposed to be an upgrade from the AO110. Screen-wise, it certainly is… but it stops there. It is horribly slow, even with all the latest Intel and Acer drivers. MUCH slower in all aspects, than the AO110. I have terrible buyer’s remorse.

Plus, the dang thing locks up tight as a drum several times per day. This is a known and wide-spread issue (just search google). Regardless of OS, the lock ups abound.

I’m now installing a 32GB SSD and 2GB in hopes of some performance boost.

On an aside, I bought the AS1410 which is exactly the same size and weight, but has an Intel Centrino in it. WOW what a difference. Anyone considering the AO751h should not think twice about it. The Acer AS1410 is light years faster…

I’ve returned two of these 751 over the last few week, back to costco.

I like everything about these netbooks, big screen, larger keyboard, etc…

My issue was with running MS Word 2003. When I would be working on a document and paging down, it would eventually lock up the computer and freeze. This would cause me to loose my work. At first I thought this was a problem with the computer, then it happened on the second computer. I decided to try the HP mini 110.

So, I’m typing form the new HP Mini 110. So far I like this, it’s a bit smaller, maybe I’ll get used to it in a few days, but one thing that I can’t stand is the screen resulution.

I just may return this too, and wait for another 6 to 12 months to see if there is better on the market by then. I would think apple will play in the netbook market, and of course domonate.

Agree with above posts. Specifically, the screen (higher resolution and extra inch) really look great next to my Samsung NC10 10 inch netbook. The keyboard is also very nice. The trackpad is way ahead of the NC10, which is weak. However, out of the box, the 2 GB version WITH VISTA (some come w/ XP) is useless. Once McAffee(sp?) was uninstalled, it was usable. I will almost surely be installing XP however.

The performance is good if you throw out the installed virus checker – McAffe – it just kills the machine, hangs the browser and slows program launch to a drawl. Why has it to be like that? AVG is significantly better (and free), if you in addition install Firefox things start to swing.

The display is really beautiful, the keyboard is good for its size, the touch pad is crap as it is on 99% of all laptops, the design of the machine is quite nice and the battery capacity compared to my Dell lap-top shines.

Lenovo S10-2 uses faster processor. The only thing to like about the 751H is its screen and keyboard.

If you plan to do some very basic stuff like non-flash browsing and you are low on cash, then you may go for it
