Green Energy Tips That Can Save You A Fortune!

You probably hear friends and TV personalities extolling the virtues of green energy, but just what is this green energy stuff? If you’re wondering what green energy technology is all about or why you should care about it, you’ve come to the right place. Read this article to learn how you can use green energy in your home.

Use a solar water heat system to lower water and heating costs. Traditional gas and electricity are not that efficient, but solar-powered water heaters glean the sun’s natural energy to maintain even temperatures. These types of upgrades, while more costly at first, may qualify you for a green energy deduction on your taxes.

Avoid turning the heat up in your home unless you have to. If you feel a small chill, instead of turning up the heat, put on a sweatshirt or sweatpants. High heat can use too much energy.

To conserve energy and save money, only run the dishwasher when you have a full load. Never run it with just a few dishes inside. If you do this, you’ll become used to filling the dishwasher with as many dishes as you can. Align the dishes so several can fit inside.

You can shave a significant amount from your utility bills by installing a programmable thermostat. When you get one of these thermostats you help regulate the temperatures for your home during both the winter and summer months. Most importantly, you can use them to cut back on the energy you use at night or while you are away.

Keep your thermostat in check with the season. Lower your thermostat slightly in the winter and raise it slightly in the summer. Doing this in conjunction with utilizing layers of clothing can help you use less energy while maintaining a temperature setting that is within reason.

Think about upgrading your home cooling and heating system to a system that is geothermal. These heating and cooling systems utilize underground pipes filled with water or refrigerant. These pipes feed directly into the main unit, which then cools or heats accordingly. Since the temperature underground is much steadier than air temperature, this kind of HVAC system is much more efficient.

Reduce your electricity use by taking the battery out of your laptop when you are plugged into an outlet. The battery will continue to draw energy, even at full capacity, so taking it out will save a few kilowatts of power. A bonus is that you will also improve the battery’s life.

Make your own ice in the freezer, forget your fridge’s ice maker and save energy. Ice makers often break down and normally use excess energy. Also, their seals tend to leak, which could increase your freezer’s temperature. You can stay away from these issues by making your own ice.

Having this information, you should be ready to make your home greener now. If you want to make your home more eco-friendly, try some of the tips you just read. Not only will the environment thank you, but your wallet will too.
