Dell Inspiron 14R, 15R and 17R notebooks (no touch-screens?)
Dell have overhauled their Inspiron line-up of notebooks.
Dell have souped up the wireless dual-band WiFi-n and low-voltage BlueTooth 4 together with HDMI 1.4a. The stereo speakers boast MaxxAudio 4 support, as seen in the more premium home entertainment XPS range. WiDi wireless display syncing is featured on the new Inspiron machines, and the usual positive spring and well-defined pressure point associated with Dell keyboards is coupled with clickpad gesture optimization tailored specifically to help users get accustomed to Windows 8.
Design-wise the Dell Inspiron 15, Inspiron 17 and in the US the baby sibling Inspiron 14 (17-,15- and 14-inch displays respectively) feature matte black exterior and a chiclet-style keyboard, and each can be configured with up to 8GB RAM and a 1TB spinning disk.
Pumping the pixels is Ivy Bridge HD4000 integrated GPU, more than enough for anything except the latest games or video editing. But for extra graphical grunt, users can upgrade to dedicated NVidia or AMD Radeon cards, with either 1GB or 2GB of vidram. So no gripes in the graphical department. the Dell Inspiron 14 and Dell Inspiron 15 feature 1366 x 768 Full HD pixel displays, and the Dell Inspiron 17 offers 1600 x 900 resolution. Pricing begins at $430 for the Dell Inspiron 14/15, and $500 for the 17-incher.
Power saving Ivy Bridge processors will increase the life of a default 4-cell or optional 6-cell battery. New Inspiron lineup will also be 17 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than last year’s models.
Then there are the Inspiron R notebooks – 14R, 15R and 17R silver trim and silver/peacock blue/fire red/lotus pink chassis, and full HD matte display as an optional extra for the 15R and 17R versions. Inspiron 15R will start at from $550, its 17-inch sibling 17R will go for $700 (and up).
In CES as well as UK Dell Inspiron R laptops have optional touch-screens, but curiously report from PCPro indicates that in US there is no optional touch-screen for Inspiron R.
Dell Inspiron R notebooks come with Windows 8 installed.
