Opera browser climb (64% rise since 2011)
On desktop systems the Opera browser has an insignificant user base next to IE, Firefox, Chrome and Safari, but in the mobile realm Opera rubs shoulders with Apple and Google for market share. Some statistical agencies rate it as the most popular mobile browser. Opera is especially popular in developing countries, where 56% of Opera users and 43% of surfers using other browsers only access the internet on mobile devices. In some countries such as Egypt (72%) and Brazil (69%) the number of Opera users whose sole interaction with the internet is confined to mobile hardware, the figures are still higher.
In an Opera white paper on the use of Opera Mini, the company found that Opear-users were 35% more likely to purchase music or games than users of other browsers. Opera users are also younger, better-educated and generally more satisfied with their mobile internet access. Perhaps the enhanced enjoyment levels are the reason Opera users are 12% more likely than non-Opera users to spend longer than an hour online in a single session. The company announced it now has 169 million Opera Mini users, a shocking 64% rise from a year ago. Page views on Opera Mini are up 8% since March 2012.
