Quadcore Lenovo and Acer Tablets On Way
Even though current reports of the iPad 2 sales don’t suggest it, the iPad 2 is rapidly being overtaken in terms of hardware – quad-core processors are starting to appear, for instance the Asus Transformer Prime TF201 Tablet with 32GB Memory in Champagne color is now available for pre-order at Best Buy for $499 with optional Keyboard Dock for $149. Details are now emerging of quad-core tablets in the pipeline from Acer and Lenovo.
According to Digitimes, Lenovo and Acer slates will reach the market, complete with the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, in Q1 2012. Prices are expected to start from around $450, which isn’t a bad deal an all considering the $500 price tag of the soon-to-be-updated iPad 2. The Lenovo tablet will feature a 1.6GHz NVidia Tegra 3 CPU and 2GB of RAM, unparalleled specs for an Android slate. Apple is expected to respond with its iPad 3 in Q2 2012, which is expected to feature a 2048 x 1536 retina display and its own quad-core processor.
