Review: Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1V
Design
Looking at this 10 inch tablet offering from Samsung, the Galaxy Tab 10.1V is a tad thicker than the iPad 1 but ever so slightly thinner than the first generation iPad. The build of the tablet was well balanced that the people who tried to hold or carry the Galaxy Tab 10.1V felt that it was as light as or even lighter than the new iPad 2 though it is really not the case. The back of the tablet is really where things get a bit interesting. The design is a domed honeycomb shape that thins on the sides to allow better grip. One of the most notable advances for the Galaxy Tab that even beats iPad 2 is the 8MP rear camera with LED flash. Of course as a trend for Honeycomb tablets, it does not have much buttons except for the power and volume buttons.
The screen
You will definitely enjoy the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1V. It is simply brilliant. The resolution is 1280×800 pixels and it offers really sharp images. Samsung kept their screens absolutely brilliant with good viewing angles as well as vibrant and pure colors. Of course, you really cannot depend on the outdoor viewing as with other tablets. Since Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1V is made up of plastic, it lacks that high end feel as you would feel on the glass screen from the iPad. The digitizer is extremely responsive.
Let us head to the interface. It looks like Samsung kept it simple and straightforward in this department. No Samsung apps or the Touchwiz overlay that is present. It is bare bones Android 3.0 as Google wanted it to be.
Performance
Samsung did a good job in making the Android OS run really well. Honeycomb has a very big advantage compared to the updated iOS 4.3 and that is the multitasking. You can actually see apps running in the background. The NVIDIA Tegra 2 CPU was powerful enough for multitasking process. Even with resource heavy programs, and games, the shift between the programs is easy. However, when we head to the browser, there are some issues. It felt clunky especially when browsing through flash heavy sites. When tested on HD movies, the 720p worked really well. Though the 1080p was quite nice, the lower resolution makes it wasteful to watch a movie or video in 1080p.
Overall
When it comes to multitasking and processing power, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 0.1V can really live up to expectations. Whether you’re playing games of working apps at the same time Galaxy tab will pull through for you. The Android 3.0 worked seamlessly with the hardware, making its usage a really good experience. With a whole slew of Honeycomb tablets on a 10 inch showing up, the Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1V has proven itself a really good tablet with really strong market potential. Some apps aren’t compatible with Honeycomb OS. It is advisable to use Android Market to weed out apps that aren’t compatible with Android 3.0. 8 megapixel camera is a real plus in Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1. To mention some cons Samsung galaxy Tab 10.1 has a bit of plastic feel to it. iPad certainly feels more refined. SD-card slot would be nice.
