Asus B23E – Preview

Asus haas launched the B23E , a 12.5-inch notebook aimed at the business user. At CES 2012 earlier this month Asus updated its budget line of Eee PC netbooks and notebooks; all the focus on was on its various Transformer slates – whether the upgraded screen of the quad-core Transformer Prime, the ICS update to the original Asus Transformer OS, or the announcement of the quadcore 7-inch version of the Prime, eagerly awaited in the tech world. And boy do we mean eagerly…

Now, Asus has switched focus with a high-end notebook which weighs in at 3.4 pounds and sports a 12.5-inch display. The Asus B23E will offer Intel Core i3, i5, or i7 CPU, and users can choose betweeen Windows 7 Home, Professional or Ultimate for their operating system. The B23E’s screen is the standard ultrabook 1366 x 768 LED affair and is anti-glare to emphasize its target use as a business machine rather than a multimedia notebook. Asus has kitted it out with a no-nonsense 8GB RAM and a 750GB hard drive, which we are hoping menas the 7200rpm type.

The B23E will offer 1 USB-3 socket, one USB-2, one USB/eSATA combo, VGA and HDMI interfaces, and an Express Card slot. Audio jacks and Ethernet socket are included too. Amongst the security features for business users are LoJack, BIOS password protection, hard drive password protection, and a fingerprint reader, and users can configure the optional Trusted Platform Module if desired. In other words, all the typical security features are there. The magnesium alloy shell and anti-shock hard disk should help with its business credentials too. The ASUS B23E with an Intel i7 processor and Windows 7 Home Premium costs from $937. Watch this space for a fuller review.
