Android Apps On Blackberry PlayBook

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0

Research In Motion RIM will launch Blackberry PlayBook OS 2.0 this February, having shown off the long-overdue email functionality and improvements to the Calendar and Contact apps at CES 2012.

What they didn’t announce was that the revised OS would allow users to run Android apps on their Blackberry tablets. The beta version of PlayBook OS 2.0 enables users to install apps modified to run on the Blackberry via the new Android App Player. Of course for anyone feeling adventurous, the tablet can be rooted, which will allow you to install the Android Market, giving Blackberry owners access to more than 600,000 apps there.

RIM’s intention is for PlayBook users to get Android apps through its Blackberry App World, hence RIM is asking developers to submit modded apps before Feb 6 so they’ll be ready for PlayBook OS 2.0 launch at the end of the month. In short, those heavily-discounted Blackberry Playbook 7-Inch (16GB) tablets for $194 are looking an increasingly good deal.
