New iPad 2 case design shows room for possible SD card slot and mini DisplayPort
While we’re still waiting on confirmation about an earlier rumor that said the next generation iPad from Apple would lose its one and only home button, even more possible new features surface, this time by way of new iPad 2 silicon case designs shown on Apple Insider. These were sent in by an unnamed Chinese accessory supplier.
At first glance, this new iPad 2 silicon case looks just like any other silicon case in the market. It will be available in different colors and will be made with a fairly straightforward design that should only accommodate the iPad 2 and whatever new extra features it brings. You might expect this silicon cases to just be plain and boring, however, it has a couple of cutouts in places that used to be empty and/or closed in previous versions used for the original iPhone.

The new iPad 2 case design features a blank spot in the upper left corner, which is thought to be placement for a possible SD card slot, and at the bottom, it is currently being speculated that there might be a mini DisplayPort for external video output.
The addition of these two new features will address some of the biggest drawbacks of the iPad as an all-around multimedia consumption device today, since a built-in SD card slot will enable it to transfer content to and from external SD memory cards, while a built-in mini DisplayPort will grant it the ability to output HDMI video not only to HDTVs but also to high-resolution screens like Apple’s very own 27-inch Cinema Display.
At the moment, neither of these two features can be confirmed as real and present in the much-awaited iPad 2, but if the device does get new features, these two will certainly make sense to add.
