Features and Improvements for iOS 5
Just recently, Apple announced that the new iOS for iPad, iPod Touch and iPhone will include 200 features. Let us take a look at some of the new features that you will be expecting from the upcoming operating system for your hand-held Apple devices.
Notifications
To put it frankly, the notifications feature from iOS 4 hasn’t been the most appealing for users. It is just a big box that interrupts your device use and it could have been more functional and not so obtrusive. The badges are also very simplistic as they only tell you the number of messages that you have missed. This major issue has been greatly improved by Apple. Now that it undertook a major overhaul, the notifications have been centralized in the Settings menu. You can now make custom changes for the notifications on each app. You can now choose what apps will offer notifications and which ones to toggle off. Another great thing is that you do not have to unlock your iOS device to check the notifications just to see what alerts are present.
The notifications banner has also become more functional. The banner can show up to 15 alerts. You can have a glimpse of what the alert is all about and select the ones that are worth your time. Sadly, the banners appear only for about 20-30 seconds and therefore, you just go to the badges to see what you have missed.
If you wish, you can activate the pull down menu that covers the screen so that you can see the updates in detail. This is a pretty nice touch since you can now check the alerts in a more organized manner. This is quite similar to the notifications menu for the Android. You can also opt to adjust the notifications either by time or by application. This can help you in further customizing your use of your iDevice and make the notifications a lot more functional.
Another very useful feature that has been incorporated in the iOS 5 is the Twitter feature. When you go to settings, you can add your Twitter credentials and thus tweet directly from the native Apple apps such as Photos or Safari. All you have to do is to go to the Sharing panel and then you choose Tweet. A text box will appear and from there you can now compose your message. With the navigation icon, you can include your location. Once you are done, just send it and it will now be sent to your feeds and seen by all your followers.
Camera App
This feature has received tons of changes and updates for the iOS 5. A grid has been included so that you can align your image perfectly and now, the volume button can be used to snap pictures while the camera app is on. You can also adjust the focus and exposure of the image by just tapping and holding your iOS screen. Hopefully, they will be able to integrate direct editing so that you do not have to open the Photos app to edit the picture.
