kindle-appAmazon Kindle app is now available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. Host of new features have been added. Full-color magazines, text books, newspapers and other periodicals are now supported via Kindle app just like in Amazon Kindle Fire. Single issue or subscriptions can be purchased.

Among other features most notable are zoom and pan functionality, support for annotations, PDF support, and auto synching of Send-to-Kindle email for all iOS devices. Organization in the library UI was also improved.

On related news Kindle Fire tablet sales are encouraging. Despite lukewarm reviews Amazon’s Kindle Fire seems to be selling well, partly thanks to its low starting price ($199) compared to the $500 iPad and other premium-priced slates. Analysts believe the Kindle Fire has already sold 7 million devices, making the new semi-walled-garden slate a serious player in the tablet market.

Many reviews were indifferent to the Kindle Fire; Amazon’s reworking of the Android interface didn’t impress people expecting a cut-price high-spec answer to the Apple iPad2. What they did get was the perfect eReader, optimized not to be a general purpose tablet: a non-expandable 8GB of storage (enough for thousands of eBooks and a few musical accompaniments but not countless apps or video), no physical volume control or Home buttons…in short, out of all these so-called weak points, there’s nothing that would really disappoint an avid reader of eBooks or pdf’s. It even has a few nice touches – links to Wikipedia, tools to search out characters in books, other background info features to enhance the reading experience.

Amazon has yet to OK various Google apps on the device, such as Google+.
Bigger tablets are apparently scheduled for Q2, but for now, you could practically trust your children with this one.
