Samsung will release its 4″, 5″ and 8.9″ tablets this month. Samsung has announced US release dates and prices for its Galaxy Tab 8.9 and its 4-inch and 5-inch portable media players .

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 will sell for $469 from October 2nd, while the Galaxy Player 4 and Galaxy S 5.0 handheld media devices will be launched on October 16th starting at $229.

Nevertheless, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 is already available at BestBuy starting at $469.99, and the Galaxy S WiFi 5.0 was on sale for $170 at Woot for a short period in early September.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 is really a smaller version of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 flagship tablet – both tablets feature a 1280 x 800 pixel display, either 16GB or 32GB storage, and the latest Android Honeycomb operating system, with Samsung’s tweaked TouchWiz interface running on top of Google’s OS.

Both run on a 1GHz NVidia Tegra 250 dual-core CPU, although the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 weighs under a pound, compared with Tab 10.1′s 1.3 pounds. The 16GB unit should retail for $469, whereas the 32GB model will cost $569.

Both run the less demanding Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS, and both are equipped with full access to the Android Market, so most Android apps will run on the players. Both media players carry 800 x 480 resolution screens, and both sport front-facing VGA cameras and a 3.2mp rear-facing camera.

Their connectivity options are also identical, offering WiFi-n and Bluetooth 3.0. Lastly, both offer 8GB storage.

The 4- and 5-inch tablets differ in their batteries; the 5-incher boasts a 2500mAh cell, and so tips the scales at 6.4 ounces, while the 4-inch Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 will have a smaller 1200mAh battery , and will weigh only 4.2 ounces. The Galaxy S WiFi 4.0 will sell for $229, but more bang for your buck can be had with the 5-incher for just $40 more. The choice is yours.
