Perhaps one of the most anticipated tablet PCs in the horizon is the Motorola Xoom. It is going to be running on Android 3.0 or codename Honeycomb and is set to go head to head with other tablet devices such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab, LG Optimus Pad and Apple iPad when it comes out. The Motorola Xoom has quite an extensive features list that combines some of the most high-end features you will ever find on a tablet PC nowadays.

These features include a 10.1-inch HD widescreen display, 1GB of RAM, dual cameras (a 5-megapixel main camera with built-in flash at the back and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera from web conferencing in front), 3G data, Flash support, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 720p video recording and 1080p video playback. Indeed, it has a lot of high-end must-have features on a tablet and on top of that its design is very sexy and sleek.

If you have been waiting for the latest information regarding its release date and release date pricing, your wait ends here. A new ad from Best Buy pretty much details every important thing you need to know about the Motorola Xoom and its arrival in the market. According to the Best Buy ad, the Motorola Xoom will become available starting on February 24th for an asking price of $799. This confirms a previous report that said pretty much the same thing about the price. And if you think that’s steep, well, all those high-end features aren’t available for free.

There’s no doubt that a lot of early adopters will be eager to drop $800 on such a thing of beauty and sophistication. Android 3.0 and any subsequent updates will only be some sort of icing on the cake. How the majority of end users will respond to this kind of pricing strategy is another matter entirely, however.

But aside from the steep price, is there anything else that can make the Motorola Xoom look worse in the eyes of the average consumer? The Best Buy ad says that you can’t buy it without first signing up for a mobile subscription on Verizon, which can cost anywhere between $20 to $80 a month. And these data subscriptions are pretty much mandatory, since it is stated that you need to have a data subscriptions first before you can activate any wireless features.

Some people have said that it’s like Motorola is asking people to not buy their upcoming Android-based tablet PC. The release date is just a little over two weeks from now, and by then we should see just how well the public actually reacts to the Motorola Xoom.
