Facebook Now Android’s Most Popular App
Facebook has become the most popular Android app amongst adult Android handset users in the US. It’s even outperforming Google’s own Android apps. The figures come from Nielsen, who tallied up the percentage of Android owners who’d used the app over the past month. The company’s device meters were installed on the smartphones of thousands of participating consumers, then usage data was analised according to age group.
The stats show Facebook has 80% reach for 18-24 year olds, 81% for 25-34 year-olds, and an impressive 77% for 35-44 year-olds. In those three age groups, the rest of the top five was made up from Google’s own app selection – Google Search, Gmail, Google Maps, and YouTube. THe last set of figures, released in July 2011, featured Facebook in third place.Last week saw the release of Facebook’s latest update to its app, Facebook for Android 1.8
