Android 3.0 Honeycomb: A Guide

  • Sharebar

Tablets are becoming quintessential devices and they are here to stay. It would take quite some time before another advanced and unique technology overshadows the tablet. For 2011, more and more tablets come in small sizes, and larger formats. The Android 3.0 alias Honeycomb will make its way to larger tablets when the first set of tablets gets released within the year. A number of engineers have already gotten access to the new system and some devices from CES will supposedly use this over the previous Android 2.2. It was said that in the UK, the Honeycomb will be released around the 1st or 2nd quarter of the year. Now that we know it is coming very soon, let us analyze what makes the Honeycomb a better system compared to 2.2.

Your Desktop, Interactive

It was said that the Honeycomb is designed for larger tablets. Google has designed Android 3.0 using an innovative Holographic user interface so you can split your desktop to 5 screens that can be customized. You can cycle them either to the left or right with the help of a virtual belt. One feature that will be carried over to Android 3.0 is the power to edit and name the screen depending on their needs. In the previous CES event, many have seen that there are features such as shortcuts, wallpapers and widgets that are touch operated so you can drag them and drop where you prefer them to be for a full customization of your desktop.

Web Browser: updated

Tablets are utilized by many users for the purpose of browsing the internet and so Google has adopted this as part of their main goal for the Android 3.0. Now, the Chrome browser for tablets has additional improvements like tab browsing and bookmarks. You can also do private browsing so that your browsing history will not get recorded.

EBooks

Tablets are not anymore just media devices. They also serve as e-book readers as well. The Google E-books is a way in order for Google to take part of the increasing electronic reading industry. Google is considered as the biggest e-library online and they have millions of books that are free and they have a massive number of books that you can purchase.

Navigation

The Honeycomb will include the Google Maps 5 as a standard issue to all devices using the said system. This feature is also present on Android 2.2 for smart phones and tablets so you can have a more comprehensive and intuitive look at the world around you at the touch of your finger tips. Since the Honeycomb is for larger screens, the maps will be more intuitive and will make more sense.

Video communications

Chatting via video has become a very big thing in 2010 and it will keep on growing as more and more tablets enable such functions. Before, Google Talk was only about messaging via text but with the Honeycomb, there are hopes for video calling to other tablets or even to other computers like desktops or laptops.
