Brazos Chips from AMD for tablet use
AMD has released a new set of chips called Brazos that include the low power Ontario and the Zacate. The company said that they are not stopping any company to use these low power chips for their tablets, these new chip sets were actually designed to work on low power netbooks as well as laptops. AMD is trying to put target the current big thing while they are already much popular in the world of tablets and smart phones. They are trying to absorb some market shares on notebooks and netbooks which are still a territory secured by Intel.
For a company that is currently in the second place it actually makes sense but it might not be a good idea for the shareholders since AMD is moving away from the hot product of the moment. That probably is the reason why then CEO Dirk Meyer was relieved from his position. This shift in direction might also have influenced by the current CEO of the company Thomas Seifert, saying that the AMD chips are created for new tablet generations that require more powerful graphic performance than the Intel Atom.
It is also quite a hard task to make a comparison between the NVIDIA Tegra 2 and the Brazos of AMD since the prior one is based on ARM and the Brazos is x86. However, it is quite a competition in the tablet department. You cans say that it is an overkill to use the Brazos on an Android enabled tablet since there are already tons of competing chip makers trying to out-win each other. Sooner or later we will be seeing a number of chip sets from AMD that are specifically designed for the tablets and it will continue on pushing the competitive air between Intel and AMD in a whole new market.
