USB 3 or ‘superspeed USB’ is expected to grow at 178% for at least the next three years, according to tech statistics beaureau In-Stat, far quicker than expected. This is mainly due to faster integration of the new standard into core chipsets. USB 2 is predicted to remain dominant for mice and keyboards, while peripherals and mobile devices – tablets, even smartphones – are expected to quickly assimilate the new standard, which operates at up to ten times faster than current USB 2 technology.

What this means for the average mobile consumer is faster syncing and file transfer, so if you’re looking for something that sets your netbook or tablet above the rest, and can’t see too much to distinguish between broadly similar processor speeds and RAM, check the USB standard used on the device.
