No new netbooks from Acer and Asus until August
Both Acer and Asus are busily engrossed in clearing their entry-level notebooks and netbooks’ inventories and will not launch any new products until the middle of August. Acer and Asus are at number 2 and number 5 in terms of notebook shipments [link] and have decided to observe the market demand in the coming months before unveiling any new model.
Another unfortunate situation has been thrown upon the netbook vendors by the high price tag of the Atom N550 processor. This processor is priced same as the entry-level Celeron processor which will bring the price of Atom N550 powered netbooks to very capable Celeron-based notebooks.

Atom N550 Benchmark
The dual-core Atom N550 was officially unveiled at the Computex 2010. When the whole world was reporting that the Asus 1015N netbook is powered by the Atom N475, we actually dwelled down into its specs and stated that it actually comes with the dual-core Atom N550 processor.

Asus 1015N
Asus has on display this next generation ION 2 netbook sporting the new Nvidia Optimus technology. This new netbook is called Asus Eee 1015N which has a 10.1-inch 1024×600 pixel display and is the first Asus netbook to feature the Next Gen ION (ION2). The keyboard is chiclet-type and both the body and display are non-glossy, which means, bye-bye fingerprints!
The Asus 1015N is powered by the Atom N450 1.6GHz processor, but the main highlight is its GPU from Nvidia that would allow you to play hi-def content and play some of the latest games like Super Street Fighter 4 and NFS Shift. It comes with 1GB RAM (upto 2GB supported); 250GB HDD and a 6-cell battery. Just like any other netbook in the market, it runs Windows 7 Starter.
Update – Thanks to notebookitalia.it, we now know that the Asus 1015N features the Atom N550 processor which is a dual-core netbook processor. Also, the sources say that the price is going to be around $400

Dual-Core Atom netbook price
According to the report by Fudzilla, Intel is suggesting the netbook manufactures to price the Atom dual-core netbooks between $349 and $399. These netbooks are expected to sport 1GB RAM, upto 32GB SSD or 250GB HDD and 7-10.2-inch displays.
Expect the first dual-core Atom N550 netbook to make its debut in Q3 2010

Atom N550
Earlier we had mentioned about the upcoming dual-core Atom processor for netbooks, the Atom N500-series. We have some more news bits regarding it – Intel will be launching the Atom N550 in the Q3 2010. It will be clocked at 1.5GHz and will feature 1MB L2 cache.
The TDP is almost double of what you normally find in Z-series CPU, but is still under 10 watts (at 8.5). Not bad at all considering the fact it is a dual core CPU that would yield much better performance than the current crop of processors
